Bok Choy
Bok Choy is a fast growing, open and leafy vegetable with long, white stalks. Grows very quickly to harvest and used in salads, steamed greens or stir-fries. More tolerant of warmer weather than some other varieties. Best sown Spring or February to April where it will grow over the cooler months. Likes a rich well drained soil and well-watered. Don’t be scared to use nitrogen rich applications for quick growth.
Sow – September and mid-February to April (cool climate). (provide cover from frosty nights when establishing in Spring)
Spacing – 25cm, 30cm rows.
Evolved in China, where it has been cultivated since the 5th century AD. Contains glucosinolates. These compounds have been reported to prevent cancer.
