Bean Scarlet Runner
Also known as seven year bean as it will generally re-shoot each spring. Scarlet Runner is an heirloom with long, flat dark green beans and suits cooler climates. Beans grow to 20cm long and can be eaten young or used as a dried bean. Well suited to Tasmania and heavy cropping. Cut to a just above ground level at end of season and they should reshoot next spring.
Sow in November when you are planting out Tomatoes (Cool Climate).
The common bean is a highly variable species that has a long history of cultivation. All wild members of the species have a climbing habit, but many cultivars are classified either as bush beans or dwarf beans, or as pole beans or climbing beans, depending on their style of growth.
