Borlotti Bean Red Rooster
Borlotti Bean Red Rooster is a bush producing unique cream and cranberry coloured pods & seeds. Borlotti beans are also known as cranberry beans or French horticultural beans. Beans can be eaten as normal. French Beans or pods can be shelled and the seed dried. Grows to a height of 60cm and spread of 30cm. Around 10 weeks to harvests begin.
Sow: late October (after risk of frost) to January (cool climate)
Spacing: plants 30cm, rows 40cm (sow 2 seeds to a hole min) soaking seed overnight aides germination.
The common bean is a highly variable species that has a long history of cultivation. All wild members of the species have a climbing habit, but many cultivars are classified either as bush beans or dwarf beans, or as pole beans or climbing beans, depending on their style of growth.
Germination: Optimal Soil temperature is 24 to 26 C (around 7 days to germination)
