French Sorrel Green de Belleville

French Sorrel Green de Belleville as the name suggests is a French cultivar. It has bright green leaves with a sharp acidic, lemony flavour which is becomes milder when cooked. It can be used in salads, fish dishes and soups. It will grow to a height of about 60cm.

Water frequently during warm dry weather and cut leaves as required. Plants are generally productive for 8 to 10 years.

SOW: September to March (during summer sow seed in a cooler shady spot) (Cool Climate)

  • Sorrel was gathered from the wild until the late 1600s, when French gardeners decided to bring it under cultivation to improve the flavour and texture of the leaves. The oldest cultivated sorrel is ‘Belleville,’ domesticated in France during the 1730’s.
