Melon Honey Dew Green Flesh
Melon Honey Dew Green Flesh has been grown in France and Algeria since around 1880 before becoming popular around the world. The fruit have a smooth, creamy white skin with lime-green flesh that is very sweet with a small seed cavity. They store very well and are around 15 to 20cm long and 13cm in diameter weighing (Expect fruit around 1 to 2 kg).
The melon is ready when the skin starts to yellow. The melon at this stage should come off easily. I often note a smell also.
Sow: Start mid October and no later than early December on a heat mat in a hothouse or indoors. Germination is higher with bottom heat of 25 degrees C. Do not over-water seedlings. If growing outside, consider laying black plastic to speed up and maintain warmer soils in Tasmania in late spring and early summer.
Spacing: 1.2m however they do well in grow bags (1 seedling to a bag). Best up a trellis.
Germination: Optimal Soil temperature is 26 to 30 C (around 5-10 days to germination)
