Mustard Red Giant
Mustard Red Giant yields a large quantity of magnificent large red/purple tinted, slightly savoyed leaves over the cooler months. Originates from Japan and is great in stir fries, salads or steamed. The colours look lovely in the garden also.
When to Sow: August to October and February to March (cool climate) can sow over summer for quick crops but will flower quicker. All year long in all climates if you grow for quick cut and come again crops.
Spacing – 20cm plants, 30 rows.
Encyclopædia Britannica states that mustard was grown by the Indus Civilization of 2500–1700 BC. According to the Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission, “Some of the earliest known documentation of mustard’s use dates back to Sumerian and Sanskrit texts from 3000 BC”.
Germination: Optimal Soil temperature is 18 to 22 C (around 5-10 days to germination)
