Squash Delicata
Squash Delicata is an All America Selection Award Winner. Delicata has a delicious sweet and nutty flavour which makes it ideal for most uses such as roasting, baking or soups. It produces narrow, elongated fruits with cream/ yellow coloured skin with dark green thin stripes along the ribs.
These tasty fruits can be eaten as soon as they mature. Fruits are around 18 to 22 cm long by 10 cm wide. Storage is handy with fruits lasting up to 4 months. An heirloom first introduced around 1894.
Sow – Germinates when soil temp >20C. Sow direct (3 seeds thin to strongest) when a week of sunny weather is forecast from Nov on. To help lay black plastic down, cut an X and plant into that.
Spacing – 100cm (provide lots of water)
Native to North America (northeastern Mexico and the southern United States), pumpkins are one of the oldest domesticated plants, having been used as early as 7,500 to 5,000 BC.
