Watermelon Blacktail Mountain
Watermelon Blacktail Mountain is possibly the best cool climate melon for Tasmania grown outside. You still want to hope for a reasonable December. Grown in a hothouse they are outstanding. Fruit up to 5kg (1.5 to 3kg generally in Tasmania) and expect 2 to 4 fruit per vine. Helps to hand pollinate when the first male and female flowers show to maximise time to mature.
When to Sow: Cool and temperate climates on a heat mat in a hothouse or indoors. Germination is higher with bottom heat of 25 degrees C.

Spacing: 70 to 80cm
Germination: Optimal Soil temperature is 26 to 30 C (around 5-10 days to germination)
